Award-winning rapper AKA whose real name is Kiernan Forbes was shot dead in Durban, South Africa along with another man identified as his bodyguard.
According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, AKA was gunned down at a popular night spot on Durban’s Florida Road on Friday night shortly after 10 pm (SAST).

“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed,” he said.
AKA, born and raised in Cape Town, rose to prominence after releasing his single “Victory Lap” from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2010).
AKA maintained his success by releasing studio albums such as Levels (2014), Touch My Blood (2018), Bhovamania (2020), and the collaborative album Be Careful What You Wish For with Anatii (2017).

He was the roastee for the Comedy Central Roast special in 2019.
AKA was killed in a drive-by shooting in Durban on February 10, 2023.
