KIGALI — A simple request for a selfie turned into one of the lighter moments of a high-level African leadership forum in Kigali, when Kenyan comedian Crazy Kennar asked Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame for a selfie.
Kennar, whose real name is Kennedy Odhiambo, made the request while addressing Kagame during a press conference at the Africa Mindset Reset Forum.
He told the president that his father had always reminded him that content could take him places.
“Lastly, Mr President, my father usually says that content can take people places. I just requested a selfie to show him that I met the president of Rwanda,” Kennar said.
President Kagame responded with a playful offer.
“I will give you two,” said President Kagame.
Kennar then walked towards the president to take the photographs. As he approached, Kagame jokingly asked whether he was expected to stand.
The exchange drew laughter before the two posed for the selfies.
After the forum, Kennar described the meeting as an honour.
“This is what happened today. It was an honour to meet the President of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame, at the Africa Mindset Reset Forum hosted by the Africa School of Governance,” he said.
The moment came during a gathering of African leaders, innovators and change-makers focused on how the continent can strengthen institutions, develop home-grown solutions and turn ideas into practical results.
The forum also examined Africa’s ability to set its own priorities amid changing geopolitics and reduced development financing.
Kennar, one of Kenya’s prominent digital comedians, has built a large audience through observational comedy and skits featuring African political figures.
His work has also expanded beyond short-form digital content. Through projects such as Happy Country, he has used satire and humour to address social issues while entertaining audiences.
