Opposition leader Raila Odinga departed Kenya for the United Kingdom on Thursday morning to deliver a keynote address at the prestigious University of Oxford. The invitation, extended by the Oxford Africa Society, marks a significant occasion where Mr. Odinga is slated to speak at the annual event.
Dennis Onyango, Mr. Odinga’s spokesperson, released a statement to newsrooms confirming the details of the visit. “At the annual event, Mr. Odinga will deliver a lecture titled: ‘Forging Africa’s Future: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal,'” said Onyango. The address will delve into Africa’s path of resilience and renewal, drawing from Mr. Odinga’s vast experience in public service and advocacy.
In his lecture, Mr. Odinga will cover critical themes such as political stability, economic growth, equity, democracy, and social cohesion. He is set to highlight narratives of resilience and examples of renewal from various parts of Africa, providing a comprehensive perspective on the continent’s progress and potential.
Additionally, Mr. Odinga will discuss his candidacy for the African Union Commission chairmanship, an aspiration that aligns with his long-standing commitment to fostering development and unity across Africa.
Accompanying Mr. Odinga to the Oxford University event are distinguished individuals including Prof. Makau Mutua, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Nyando MP Jared Okello.
