Have you considered the possibility that your tea bag may be doing more damage than good to you?

According to a study conducted by scientists at McGill University in Montreal, a single plastic teabag can discharge dangerous particles into your cup, including 3.1 billion nano plastics and 11.6 billion microplastics (fragments of any sort of plastic less than 5 mm in length).

Dr. Rashi Chowdhary, a nutritionist, recently shared on Instagram the effects of these dangerous poisons discharged into the tea from the tea bags.

“Tea bags release billions of micro and nano plastics into hot water. The nylon ones are the worst cause of polypropylene (a type of plastic),” she said.

Dr. Chowdhary noted that the paper tea bags include “a chemical called epichlorohydrin, which is employed so that the bag doesn’t tear,”.

She explained that epichlorohydrin is a possible carcinogen (a chemical that can cause cancer) and reproductive toxin that leaches into hot water. Since many people with hormone problems use tea bags, the dietitian described it as “dangerous”.

Agreeing to, Dr. Kiran Dalal, a dietician at Fortis Escorts Hospital in Faridabad, “Most tea bags have a covering of dioxin, and epichlorohydrin, or are submerged in chlorine. Therefore, if it is exposed to hot water, it could leak into the beverage, which could further injure people.”

Experts recommended avoiding using tea bags in favor of powdered or loose tea leaves. Dr. Dalal noted that all of these issues can be avoided by using a tea bag made of linen.
