Thank the heavens for technology. Gone are the days when you would schedule trips and then wait an entire year to see your partner. Today, a smartphone is all you need. Keep in touch with each other. Find out about each other’s day, and how the other is doing. Heck, gossip about your landlord who is hitting on anything in a skirt. The point is, consistent communication makes it known that you are present in the relationship.

People in long-distance relationships feel the pressure to always call, text, skype, and all that. It can be overwhelming. Even as you try so hard to get the communication flowing, make sure that you give each other space to enjoy self-company and that of friends and family. Overdoing will only get you so far.

  • Plan visits every once in a while

While it is important to keep in touch, it is also key that you set aside a couple of days for personal visits. It could be weekly or monthly, depending on your schedule. this will help you connect on a physical level. You can create activities for you to do together while at it, like dining at a famous restaurant or going hiking or something as simple as Netflix. (The chilling is all up to you)

  • Create trust and respect

It takes a great deal of courage to be committed to someone who is not always physically present. That can cause a lot of anxiety and sadness. If you and your partner are willing to make the long-distance relationship work, you have got to create trust between each other. Make your partner safe in knowing that you will remain loyal to them, despite the distance.

At the end of the day, long-distance relationships work; it is all about whether the two prospects are willing to sweat for it.
