During these days when we are experiencing extreme heat globally, it is mandatory to find ways that will keep us and our loved ones protected.
There is nothing as bad as having to deal with an intense amount of heat. Extreme hot conditions could make you lazy, sick, or both, not to mention, damage your skin. We may believe that black doesn’t crack, but even with your melanin skin, you deserve protection from the heat.

- Hydration
Take a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. Hydrating severally during the day helps to keep your body temperature in check and control the heat levels. It is a plus because it will keep your skin looking young and rejuvenated.
- Get yourself some sunscreen
Everyone needs sunscreen, even people of color. Ensure you put on sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you leave the house. Even when outside, remember to touch up that sunscreen every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating.

- Dress for the weather
There is pressure to look all classy but do not overdo it at the expense of burning up. Get yourself nice outfits that are convenient for outdoor activity. Invest in lightweight clothes, maybe a wide-brimmed hat. Heck, throw some sunglasses in there.

- Avoid the outdoors if necessary
If you can, limit your outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours when the sun isn’t too hot to fry you.
- Light eating
Before you start pointing fingers, this doesn’t mean starvation. Generally, heavy or hot meals can heat your body more quickly. Try some light meals like rice, or pasta. Moreover, this is the perfect weather to make ice cream your best friend.
- Air conditioning, perhaps?
It is important that you have access to air conditioning, at home or in the office. Getting electric fans is also a great substitute for keeping cool. These gadgets will help ensure you and your loved ones are kept safe from heat-related illnesses.

- Be in the know
There is no harm in having a little weather alert on your phone. These tips will give you a head start on what times of the day are expected to be hotter and how to dress appropriately.

- Check in with family
This heat is no one’s friend so it will probably not go easy on anyone. Be sure to check in on your family, especially the kids to ensure they are not at any risk due to subjection to high heat levels.
