Pakistan Journalist Shot Dead By Police in Mistaken Identity

A Pakistan journalist was shot dead by police in a mistaken identity at a roadblock in Kajiado last night.

Arshad Sharif was shot in the head and killed by police after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock, police have confirmed.

The two were driving from Magadi town to Nairobi when they were flagged down at a roadblock being manned by a group of officers.

“It was a case of mistaken identity,” a senior police officer said, “police at a roadblock were looking for another vehicle that had been circulated.”

Nine bullet holes were found in the car’s windscreen, two bullet holes in the rear left back screen, one bullet on the rear right door, four holes on the boot, and one on the front tyre.

Javeria Siddiqui who is Sharif’s wife tweeted: “I lost a friend, husband, and my favourite journalist today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.”

IPOA has deployed a rapid response team to Kajiado to investigate the incident that happened last night.

Kenya Editors Guild has also called for a speedy probe into the killing of the journalist.
