Kenya Restores Hacked Ministry Websites as PS Omollo Vows to Hunt Down Cyberattackers

Nairobi — Kenya has restored several government websites after a cyberattack on Monday morning briefly knocked key ministries offline, prompting fresh concern about the country’s digital security.

The attackers, identifying themselves as “PCP@Kenya,” defaced multiple sites with extremist messages and blocked access to the public. Screenshots captured during the outage showed phrases such as “Access denied by PCP” and other text linked to white supremacist rhetoric.

In a statement issued on Monday, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the government acted swiftly once the breach was detected. He noted that incident response teams had worked “closely with relevant stakeholders” to contain the attack and restore most services.

“The situation has since been contained, and the systems are under continuous monitoring,” PS Omollo said. He added that authorities were focused on strengthening defensive layers so that “any attempt is detected early, contained quickly, neutralised decisively, and its impact minimised.”

The ministries affected included Interior, Health, Education, Environment, Energy, Labour and Water, according to confirmations made on Monday. By press time, two websites, Energy and Environment were still being restored.

PS Omollo condemned the attack, calling it a clear breach of Kenyan law and international norms. He cited the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, the Kenya Information and Communications Act, and the Data Protection Act, stressing that those responsible would be held accountable.

“Individuals found culpable will face the full force of the law,” he warned.

Cyber incidents targeting public systems have increased globally in recent years, raising pressure on governments to strengthen digital infrastructure.

For now, the affected websites are back online, and officials insist the threat has been contained but investigations into who was behind the attack are under way, and the government has said it intends to pursue the matter to its end.
