Tarus gained prominence for her outspokenness during a meeting where Uasin Gishu county residents voiced concerns about the failed scholarship program.
Confronting Senator Mandago directly, Tarus accused him of dishonesty and taking advantage of vulnerable students and parents. She criticized his repeated lies and deceitful demeanor.
The scholarship initiative collected over Ksh800 million from parents in the Financial Year 2021/22 to support students’ education in Finland and Canada.
The program, backed by the Uasin Gishu County Government, promised future job prospects for successful candidates upon completing their overseas education.
However, the initiative faced controversy due to allegations of corruption and fund mismanagement. Consequently, this led to the loss of funds intended for student fees.
Shedding light in this dark tunnel, EACC stated earlier today that they were in the final stages of concluding investigations into the issue. Charles Rasungu, EACC’s North Rift Regional Manager addressed affected parents and students.
