Tarus became an internet sensation after standing up to Uasin Gishu leaders, including Senator Jackson Mandago. Tarus demanded answers about the scholarship scam that led students like her to lose substantial amounts of money.
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina expressed admiration for Tarus’s bold approach and extended a job offer. Thus acknowledging that candid youth are the future. The outspoken legislator’s tweet stated,

Tarus gained prominence for her outspokenness during a meeting where Uasin Gishu county residents voiced concerns about the failed scholarship program.
Confronting Senator Mandago directly, Tarus accused him of dishonesty and taking advantage of vulnerable students and parents. She criticized his repeated lies and deceitful demeanor.
The scholarship initiative collected over Ksh800 million from parents in the Financial Year 2021/22 to support students’ education in Finland and Canada.
The program, backed by the Uasin Gishu County Government, promised future job prospects for successful candidates upon completing their overseas education.
However, the initiative faced controversy due to allegations of corruption and fund mismanagement. Consequently, this led to the loss of funds intended for student fees.
Shedding light in this dark tunnel, EACC stated earlier today that they were in the final stages of concluding investigations into the issue. Charles Rasungu, EACC’s North Rift Regional Manager addressed affected parents and students.
This came as a ray of hope as the affected parties clearly stated that they would not seize demonstrating over their lost money. However, netizens hope that Mercy Tarus and other affected individuals will not only be refunded but also compensated fully for time lost.
