Kenyan Celebrities Who Know How to Chase Clout: Vera Sidika, Eric Omondi

Kenyan celebrities have mastered the art of using clout to work for them. In the words of Barnum, all publicity is good publicity.

Celebrities have taken the quote into practice and used their status to make the most of it. From getting more views for their content to helping them stay on top of the game.
Two of the pacesetters for clout chasing in Kenya are;

  • Vera Sidika

Vera Sidika is no stranger to controversy. Since she came into the public face, she has managed to stay relevant every year, sometimes through providing her followers with content and sometimes through creating publicity stunts. In the past, she has created controversy around her looks including coming out that she had changed her bleached face to her original color which lasted only for a few days.

In 2022, she intentionally lied to the public that she had done a ‘butt reduction’ surgery after which she released a music video. The music gained lots of viewers in a few days as she had already drawn attention to her earlier.
She is currently featured in the new reality show ‘The Real Housewives of Nairobi’ where she showcases her life as a housewife together with other Kenyan women.

  • Eric Omondi

The comedian, who was formerly known and recognized for his comic work at Churchill Show, has recently been the face of controversy in the media.

It all started when he began cross-dressing for content, up until now when he has singlehandedly staged demonstrations against the government claiming to be fighting for the rights of Kenyans and the lowering of the cost of living. He was recently blasted by fellow celebrities, Nadia Mukami and Khaligraph Jones, for always chasing clout.

Chasing clout may be seen as a negative thing, but it has worked for these celebrities. They have amassed millions of followers online making them good prospects for some good brand deals. They have proven that there is nothing such as negative publicity, all publicity is good publicity, as long as you have people’s attention.
