The January transfer window has been closed as United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham land targets on transfer deadline day
The transfer deadline day, 31st January 2023, has seen some big moves across Europe. The January window has also been quite disappointing to some players, with Hakim Ziyech being the major highlight.
Recap: Deadline Day Drama
Enzo Fernandez, the 2022 World Cup champion with Argentina, will join Chelsea on a contract that runs through June 2031 after a deal between Chelsea and Benfica was struck. The deal is a British record fee of $129 million.
In another big Transfer deadline day move, Arsenal boosted their squad with the signing of 31-year-old midfielder Jorginho from Chelsea.
Jorginho will give the Gunners the much-needed midfield reinforcement they were seeking at the beginning of the transfer window.
He has an 18-month deal with Arsenal that runs until the summer of 2024, however, they do have the option to extend it by one year.
The Red Devils were also on the market’s radar, especially after Cristian Eriksen was reported to be out till late May or early April following an injury on his ankle in United’s FA Cup win over Reading.
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Haag had to move fast and sign Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer on a short-term loan.
Tottenham Hotspurs have also made a move to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting CP on a $49 million deal. Porro has signed on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent. Barcelona full-back Hector Bellerin once of North London rivals Arsenal, appears to be taking Porro’s place in Sporting’s back line, albeit on loan.
Premier League side Nottingham Forest could just be the luckiest this transfer window.
On Transfer Deadline Day, Forest announced the signings of three players: goalkeeper Keylor Navas from Paris Saint-Germain, midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle United, and defender Felipe from Atletico Madrid.
Felipe, 33, joins Forest from Atletico Madrid up until the summer of 2024. Former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, while PSG goalkeeper Navas has concluded a loan agreement till the end of the season.
