Former Shujaa Legend Collins Injera Retires from Rugby

Since making his debut in 2006, Kenya Sevens Legend Collins Injera has decided to hang his boots and bring his illustrious career as a professional rugby player to an end.

The 36-year-old former Shujaa player officially announced his retirement from rugby on Tuesday morning via a statement posted on his social media handles. Injera is most fondly remembered for his exploits during Shujaa’s Singapore Sevens victory in 2016. The Man of the Match in the final? You guessed right, Collins Injera 💪

With 279 tries in his career, Injera is the second-highest try scorer in the history of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and the leading try scorer for Kenya’s men’s national sevens team.

Collins Injera was recently honoured by being inducted into the Fiji Hall of Fame and has been chosen to serve as tournament ambassador for the Coral Coast Sevens which will feature 16 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams, and 16 youth teams.

“Everything must come to an end, sometime. I have always said that I will know it’s time because my body will tell me. And for the past few months, it has really ‘spoken’ to me so, finally, I have decided to listen to it,” said Injera in a statement on social media.

In conclusion, Injera said, “For my next chapter, I will continue with my humanitarian work and will be joining global satellite business (and UN Sustainable Development Goals Quality Education Partner), Avanti Communications, in an exciting new role to support its East African operations.”
