Lula Da Silva has downed his close opponent Jair Bolsonaro in the Brazil General Elections with a clear scoop of 50.9%, as Bolsonaro manages 49.1% of the votes.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won the Brazilian presidential seat with 50.9% defeating the incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, who garnered 49.1% of the votes cast. He is set to be inaugurated as the 39th President of Brazil in 2023.
Silva, famously known as Lula, makes a remarkable return, having been imprisoned for a corruption case three years ago.
He is a Brazilian politician and labor unionist. He served as the 35th President of Brazil from 2003 to 2010.
Lula was imprisoned in April 2018 after an appellate court confirmed a sentence for corruption and money laundering imposed by notorious judge Sergio Moro.
He has always maintained his innocence and alleged that the charges against him were politically motivated until his release in November 2019 following a Supreme Court ruling.
The 77-year-old president-elect is revered by the leftist movements in Latin America and has an almost mystical link to the working class in Brazil.
He promised to raise wages for workers and offer donations to the poor population of Brazil, which was long affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He has also pledged to work in unison with all Brazilian regardless of those who voted for him or not.
Although Da Silva’s convictions were overturned, he still had a tough fight on his hands when he decided to run again for president since so many Brazilians still held him in high regard as a corrupt official.

His triumph marks the first time an incumbent president has lost his bid for re-election since 1985.
Notably, Bolsonaro becomes the first president to lose re-election following a constitutional amendment to allow presidents to seek re-election.
With Da Silva’s triumph in Brazil, every significant Latin American nation will be governed by a socialist administration.
