The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced an extension of its operating hours in an effort to address the backlog of pending driving licenses and new generation number plates. According to a statement released by the authority, these changes will be effective starting this weekend.
The NTSA will now operate during extended hours from Monday to Friday, with all NTSA Banking Halls and Offices open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The authority has also made arrangements to serve the public on Saturday, specifically on September 30, 2023, and October 7, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., to facilitate the collection of number plates.
This departure from the regular operating hours is intended to provide vehicle owners with ample opportunity to retrieve their number plates and driving licenses promptly. Furthermore, it is expected that this adjustment will speed up the document processing procedures, as noted by the Transport Ministry.

The NTSA has issued a plea to motor vehicle owners who have received SMS notifications regarding the collection of reflective number plates to visit the designated centers indicated during the application process.
This decision by the NTSA follows closely on the heels of an impromptu visit made by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to the NTSA offices on September 23. During this visit, he conducted a comprehensive assessment of their operations and directed the NTSA to eliminate the backlog of driving licenses and digital number plates, assigning specific timelines for the task.

“To quickly resolve this issue, I will personally supervise the processing, printing and delivery of Driving Licenses, logbooks and digital number plates, starting today, to ensure Kenyans get better services and value for money,” said Kipchumba Murkomen.
