Controversial DJ Brownskin, whose real name is Michael Macharia, has officially been charged with aiding suicide, months after his wife’s video surfaced online.
The video, which was first shared publicly in April this year, showed Sharon Mwangi, drinking what she said was poison and her health immediately began to deteriorate as the DJ watched and recorded the whole ordeal.

Contrary to Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code in Kenya, the DJ is charged with aiding the suicide of his deceased wife, Sharon Njeri Mwangi.
any person who procures another to kill himself, or counsels another to kill himself and thereby induces him to do so; or aids another in killing himself is guilty of a felony and liable to life imprisonment.
Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code
The DJ was arrested earlier this month for advising his deceased wife to take poison, which ultimately led to her death. He has been charged with negligence for failing to use reasonable means to prevent his wife from taking her life by suicide.
The DJ has also been charged with destroying valuable evidence in the case against him by removing his SIM card from his phone, intended to be used as evidence.

Mr. Macharia entered a not-guilty plea to the charges against him on Monday morning at the Milimani Law Courts before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina. He has been detained for three days further pending probation and is expected back in court on June 15.

Although the DJ’s incriminating video became public in April this year, his wife died on July 29 last year. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter who were left in the DJ’s care after Sharon’s death.
