The Routine to Personal Growth

While it is true the human spirit lives on creativity and dies in conformity and routine, routine is meant to help and not hinder. Some people choose to impulsively while others find it almost impossible to go through their day without a detailed plan.

Working out

Working out, especially in the morning will help you avoid mental exhaustion throughout your day. It makes you feel energized and sets you up for the day. It is an effective form of mental stimulation.

Similarly, it promotes relaxation and reduces insomnia symptoms by regulating the sleep cycle. Intense exercise close to bedtime should however be avoided as it might interfere with your sleep.

In addition to that, working out regularly burns calories, increases metabolism and helps to build lean muscle mass which regulates body weight.

Meditation

Another habit to incorporate into your routine is meditation. It will help you reduce stress by activating your body`s relaxation response which will reduce stress hormones like cortisol. It also promotes calmness and improves overall resilience to stress.

It also helps you develop a deeper sense of understanding your thinking patterns and behaviour. It will lead to your personal growth and prompt you to develop a greater sense of fulfillment and purpose in life.

Reading

Reading is also an invaluable activity that has a lot of benefits. Reading any type of genre provides a unique experience. You gain insights and learn new things that you can apply in various aspects of your life.

Secondly, reading is another form of mental stimulation. It improves your language skills, vocabulary and critical thinking abilities. It stimulates imagination and creativity by allowing you to visualize and engage with the content. It brings your imagination to life.

Furthermore, it is important for our emotional and empathetic development. You could live vicariously through books by having the opportunity to explore different perspectives, emotions and experiences.

You get to connect with characters, empathize with their struggle and have a deeper understanding of the human condition.

Writing down your thoughts, experiences and reflections tends to have a profound impact on personal growth. It is an effective tool that can be used to release tension stored in the mind.

It allows self-reflection by helping you gain insights into your beliefs, patterns and behaviours and therefore prompts you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

Additionally, it is a channel for emotional expression. Instead of bottling up your emotions and frustrations, you have the option of expressing yourself in your journal which I should remind you is a safe and private space.

Similarly, you can use your journal to record personal events, experiences and milestones. It lets you capture and preserve both good and bad times that might, unfortunately, get erased from your mind. It allows you to appreciate your growth and progress.
