  1. Vijana Barubaru

With roots in Mathare in Nairobi, the boy band has consistently delivered good music about life. The duo is composed of Tuku Kantu, a seasoned singer and songwriter, and Spikes Mshairi, a rapper with a solid poetic influence.

They are well known for their hit songs; Sasa Hivi and Romantic Call. Sasa Hivi went viral on TikTok and took the East African music scene by storm even before its official release. Several celebrities lauded them for their work, media personality, and Lang’ata MP referred to them as the ‘modern-day Sauti Sol’, a sentiment that might just come true. The boys in the band pride themselves in writing and producing music with more profound lyrics and different from other musicians in the country.

The Gengetone Love hitmakers have established themselves as a Kenyan sound that transcends barriers. They are loved by their fans for their electrifying live performances with incredible choreography which can be attributed to members of the group being dancers before venturing into singing. With hits like “Siko Fiti,” Matata has established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the Kenyan music industry. Despite being based abroad, they have a solid Kenyan fanbase and their versatility could be all they need to replace Sauti Sol as the face of the Kenyan music scene.
