Frank Lampard is set to return as Chelsea’s interim manager until the end of the season, two years after the club sacked him following Graham Potter’s exit.

The ex-Chelsea previously managed the Blues from July 2019 until January 2021 before being sacked just two years after the club sacked him and was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

However, Lampard In his previous managerial spell at Chelsea saw him guide them to the FA Cup final in his first season in charge, having joined from Derby County.

Lampard who is the club’s record goalscorer managed 44 wins from 84 matches but picked up five defeats in his last eight league games.
Lampard has been out of a job since January when he was dismissed by Everton after less than a year in charge.

Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League and drew 0-0 with Liverpool on Tuesday under Bruno Saltor – with 44-year-old Lampard in attendance at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues Chelsea are 14 points outside the top four, despite having spent more than £550m on new players this season.

Lampard is expected to be on the touch line as Chelsea visit Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday and face Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on 12 April.
After being sacked by Chelsea, he was named Everton boss in January 2022 but was sacked eight days shy of his first anniversary in the role after nine defeats in 12 Premier League games.

A potential caretaker move for Lampard comes after Chelsea held talks in London with former Barcelona and Spain boss Luis Enrique over their managerial vacancy.
The 52-year-old, who is out of work after leaving the Spain job following the World Cup, won the treble at Barcelona in 2014/15, lifting La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.

Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, Oliver Glasner, and Luciano Spalletti are also among those under discussion internally at Chelsea. However, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is not believed to be on the list.
Talks between Nagelsmann’s representatives and Chelsea are ongoing and positive.

Luis Enrique also keen on the job, both waiting for Chelsea next steps.

The 35-year-old, recently sacked by Bayern Munich, wants to manage in the Premier League and sees it as his natural next destination but will not rush into a decision over his future amid strong interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.
