Death Toll Jumps to 25 in Philippine Floods

The death toll from floods in the Philippines floods has risen to 25 people as of Wednesday morning, with storms expected to bring more rain in the South and Central regions.

An earlier report by the National Disaster Agency stated that at least 13 people had died and 26 others were still missing, most from drowning, in the province of Misamis Occidental on the Southern Island of Mindanao.

Tens of Thousands of people were forced to vacate their residential homes as heavy rain submerged Rural villages, Towns, and Roads on Christmas Day.

The Disaster Agency said that relief efforts were underway to help people in areas affected by the flooding, as more than 81,000 people are currently sheltered in evacuation centres.

Officials were to conduct Aerial Surveillance over Misamis Occidental to assess the extent of the damage.

The State Weather Forecaster said moderate to heavy rains were likely across Southern and Central regions on Wednesday and Thursday respectively due to a Low-Pressure area off the Coast that could develop into a Tropical depression.
