Saudi Arabia Declares Public Holiday after Victory Over Argentina

King Salman has declared a public holiday in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to mark the national team’s stunning 2-1 upset over Lionel Messi’s Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.

Quick fire second-half goals from Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari enabled Saudi Arabia to mark this day on the sands of time as they were able to beat the Argentina team captained by Lionel Messi.

This is history in that Saudi Arabia becomes the first Asian team to beat Argentina in the world cup.

The Albicelestes faces in the end of the match were upset and the faces could tell they never saw it coming.

Saudi Arabia has therefore declared Wednesday, November 23, a public holiday after this historic moment 2-1 victory over Argentina inspired by a goal from Salem Al-Dawsari.

Messi had already put his national team in front after just 10 minutes and had three goals disallowed for offside, but Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari struck in the space of five second-half minutes to turn the game on its head.

This was also a huge moment for the host Qatar after being humiliated on their home ground in an opener match against Ecuador that ended 2-0.

“Wow! I have all the feelings right now. We beat Argentina, one of the great teams!” said Saad from Riyadh, who is in Qatar for two weeks and was wearing a green Saudi Falcons scarf.

“Our guys played so well — everything went right inside the stadium today. It was amazing.”

“Thank God, the players were up to it and we wiped them,” Saudi fan Abdelaziz al-Khwatem said. “They were relying on one player, we competed as a team and we wiped them, we are up to it. Watch out for Saudi Arabia because when it hits, it hurts.”

Saudi Arabia is now in a good position to qualify for the round of 16 after winning the first game.
