United extend unbeaten run but face a major setback after striker Benjamin Sesko suffers a knee injury in dramatic 2-2 stalemate at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Manchester United’s five-game unbeaten streak continued on Saturday, this was after a dramatic display of football in North London which ended in a 2-2 draw. The match also saw man united’s target man Benjamin Sesko limping off in the final minutes.
The match, a mix of energy and frustration, swung wildly from end to end. Bryan Mbeumo had given United the lead with a first-half header, but Tottenham’s late drama, led by Mathys Tel and Richarlison, nearly turned the game on its head. Richarlison’s stoppage-time strike seemed to seal a home win, only for Matthijs de Ligt to snatch a 96th-minute equaliser for the visitors.
The injury to Sesko was the biggest concern for United boss Ruben Amorim, who confirmed post-match that the Slovenian forward had sustained a knee problem. “We have to check , it’s the knee, so you never know,” Amorim said, hinting at a possible long layoff. With Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo both set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, losing Sesko would deepen United’s attacking crisis.
Amorim admitted his team “felt too comfortable” and failed to manage the late pressure. “We should have been more aggressive. The space was there, the three points were there. We need to handle those moments better,” he said.
Tottenham, meanwhile, avoided a third straight home defeat — but their struggles in north London continue. The draw means they’ve now collected only 14 points from their past 20 home league games, the worst record in the top flight over that period.
Spurs manager Thomas Frank praised his side’s resilience after Richarlison’s emotional goal and Van de Ven’s strong defensive display, but admitted both teams “cancelled each other out.”
“It was one of those games where both teams wanted to win but also feared losing,” Frank said. “We’ll take the point — it’s not what we wanted, but it’s not what we feared either.”
United stay unbeaten in five but continue to leak goals, conceding two in each of their past three matches. For Amorim, the progress is visible, but the problems remain.
“We have a lot of work to do,” he concluded. “The results show we’re improving, but the structure still needs time.”
