Kasmuel Warns Sifuna Against Political Hypocrisy in Broad-Based Deal

McOure confronts ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna over claims of an ODM victory in Nanam Ward.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member Kasmuel McOure has issued a strongly worded statement cautioning elected party officials, especially Secretary General Edwin Sifuna against double-speaking on the recently formed Broad-Based arrangement between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a statement addressed to the Nairobi Senator and fellow party members, McOure reminded leaders that the Broad-Based arrangement was a collective decision made “for the sake of the country.”

He faulted some leaders for publicly disowning an agreement they had previously endorsed behind closed doors.

“You pushed for this arrangement in boardrooms; you must not now pretend to oppose it when you face the people,” McOure said.

He stressed that both ODM and UDA negotiated and zoned regions in a spirit of political goodwill, with mutual support in specific areas as part of a national reconciliation effort.

Criticism of ODM Secretary-General

McOure accused the party’s Secretary-General of “feigning ignorance” over the Broad-Based pact while making contradictory statements to the public.

“It is disingenuous for our Secretary-General to feign ignorance of this arrangement while uttering faux-democratic statements to the masses and singing a different tune behind closed doors,” he stated.

“We entered this agreement despite his reservations because Kenya was bigger.”

McOure further challenged party leaders to respect ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s word, which he said carried more weight than personal feelings or factional politics.

McOure Defends the Broad-Based Agenda

McOure reiterated that the Ten-Point Agenda, which underpins the Broad-Based government’s priorities, allows ODM to remain a watchdog while promoting stability and development.

He dismissed claims that supporting the arrangement weakens the opposition, instead framing it as a pragmatic step toward “national healing and service delivery.”

“The Ten-Point Agenda gives us ample room to hold this government accountable without creating confusion among our supporters,” he said.

In his concluding remarks, McOure called on ODM legislators to shun political posturing and focus on delivering results to the people, warning that Kenyans were watching their actions closely.

“Stop pretending, stop antagonizing the government for soft power or personal deals. The people are watching, and they shall judge you by your works,” he said.

McOure’s statement comes amid growing tension within ODM over the party’s cooperation with President Ruto’s government under the Broad-Based framework, which was intended to ease political divisions following months of bipartisan dialogue.
