Nairobi official loses his way
Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria found himself in trouble during his trip to Germany.
The Chief Officer for Customer Engagement said he became lost while using the country’s train and metro system.
He was trying to reach his hotel when he ended up in an underground passage. The unfamiliar routes made the journey harder. Communication problems added to the confusion.
“Majamaa, I got completely lost in the underpass while trying to navigate the trains and metro to get to my hotel,” Mosiria said in a post shared on Instagram.
“In Germany, you really need to know the places, and the communication can be challenging.”
Help came through a livestream
A way out was found after Mosiria went live on social media. His broadcast was seen by a young man named Owen. The man was said to live nearby.
Owen traced Mosiria’s location and went to look for him. He then accompanied the Nairobi official to his hotel.
“I went live, and a young man named Owen, who lives nearby, saw the situation, traced where we were, and came to our rescue,” Mosiria said.
“He personally took us to the hotel where I’ll be staying during my time here in Germany.”
Social media praised
The incident was presented by Mosiria as an example of social media’s wider value. He said digital platforms could do more than provide entertainment. They could also help people find support in unfamiliar places.
“The power of social media should never be undermined,” he wrote.
“It can do more than entertain. It can connect people, protect lives, and even save lives.”
Mosiria ended the account with a light-hearted message to his followers.
“Sitoki TikTok!” he declared.
Journey continues
Mosiria has been sharing moments from his international travels online. Before travelling to Germany, he had visited Dubai.
During that stop, he visited a luxury watch shop and reacted to a Rolex priced at about US$44,000. That figure was equivalent to more than KSh5 million.
His Germany trip has since offered a different kind of travel story. Instead of luxury shopping, attention shifted to the challenge of navigating an unfamiliar transport network.
Germany’s public transport system includes trains, underground services and connecting routes. For visitors, finding the right platform or exit can be difficult.
The challenge can be greater when signs are unfamiliar and the destination is not known. For Mosiria, help eventually came from a stranger who saw his livestream and stepped in.
