MOFA FC Break New Ground With Weekly Pre-Match Press Briefings

MOFAA

In a move that could reshape communication in Kenyan football, MOFA FC have announced plans to hold weekly pre-match press conferences, the first of their kind in the country’s second tier.

The initiative, set to coincide with the delayed start of the FKF National Super League (NSL) later this month, will see the Homa Bay-based club brief reporters and fans ahead of every fixture.

“This is a big step for us as we align with our strategic plan, which places high value on stakeholder engagement,” said Bonface Osano, MOFA’s head of communications and marketing. “I sincerely thank our President, Michael Olunga, and CEO Victor Ogada for making this possible. We are committed to consistency throughout the season.”

The season was meant to kick off this weekend, with MOFA scheduled to host relegated FKF Premier League side Nairobi City Stars at Raila Odinga Stadium. But following a joint agreement between the Football Kenya Federation and league clubs, the opening round has been pushed to 27–28 September to allow time for a Sports Dispute Tribunal ruling.

MOFA confirmed their first press briefing will now be held just before that rescheduled opener. The sessions will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook, making them easily accessible to fans and media alike.

The club’s assistant coach, Fabian Hosea, is expected to lead the inaugural conference. Head coach Charles Bruno is currently away on duty with Kenya’s Under-20 women’s side, the Rising Starlets, who face Ethiopia in a two-legged qualifier.

For Olunga’s club, the move is as much about ambition as transparency. MOFA finished seventh last season with 49 points, but management believes better structures, clearer communication, and a more engaged fan base could help push them into promotion contention.

Bruno, who joined from Kisumu All Stars, has been tasked with transforming the side into genuine challengers for a place in the FKF Premier League.

With a delayed season, a refreshed squad, and now a communication strategy rarely seen at this level of Kenyan football, MOFA are positioning themselves not just to compete, but to set a new standard for how second-tier clubs connect with the public.
