Maurice Steijn has left Ajax by mutual consent following a disappointing string of results, with the team only securing five points.
The club has officially parted ways with Steijn after a 4-3 loss to Utrecht extended their dismal start, placing the team in the relegation zone with only five points from seven matches.
Steijn arrived at Ajax from Sparta Rotterdam last summer and signed a contract in Amsterdam until June 30, 2026
His departure comes after overseeing just 11 games at the helm of the club.
The club statement read, “The club management and Steijn have jointly decided that the trainer will resign his duties. .”
The move is not a surprise since Ajax are on their worst run since 1954.
They are without a win since August and haven’t maintained a clean sheet since September 3.

To add to the woes, Sunday’s match was marred by incidents of objects being thrown onto the pitch, leading to the game being suspended twice due to crowd disorder.
The Dutch manager disclosed that he was informed of the decision during a meeting with the club’s board on Monday morning.
“This morning, I sat down with the board, and we continued our talks later this afternoon. We came to the conclusion that this is what is best for Ajax.”

Hedwiges Maduro has been appointed as the caretaker manager, while Steijn expressed his regret at how his reign had ended.
Ajax take on Premier League side Brighton on Thursday in the group stages of the Europa League.
