The Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba, has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to completing the renovations of its major stadiums, even if they are not selected to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations under the Pamoja bid.
Namwamba spoke at Kasarani Stadium after meeting with a committee from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who visited the country to inspect its stadiums.

“We’ve an occasion to provide details for the plan of refurbishing the three facilities we’ve proposed as venues.
In the interest of time and other resources, we’re going to refurbish the existing facilities other than setting up new ones so to maximize utility of what we already have.”
CS Nambwamba said.
However, Hon. Namwamba emphasized that the country had put in place a plan to refurbish the facilities and shared the infrastructural and architectural details

“With or without AFCON, we’re determined to renovate our sporting facilities. We want to bid for other World competitions and we’ll keep on attracting these top- level events.”
Nambwamba added.
Additionally, the CS elaborated that Kenya had missed out on previous hosting opportunities due to failing to meet the required standards.
Moi Kasarani Sports Centre, Nyayo National Stadium and Kipchoge Keino in Eldoret are among the stadiums listed by Kenya as potential hosts for the AFCON competition.

CAF Match Venues Saga for Kenya
Meanwhile, there has been uncertainty surrounding the stadium Gor Mahia, Kenyan top-flight record champions, will use for CAF Champions League matches.
Kasarani Stadium is yet to receive approval from CAF, leaving Gor Mahia searching for alternative venues in neighboring countries.

Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier revealed that the club has agreed with Tanzanian side Azam FC to use their facility, Azam Complex Stadium, for their CAF home matches.
However, Rachier urged stakeholders to expedite the necessary renovations to meet international standards.

The City lawyer also hinted at the possibility of relocating their home ground to Rwanda in case they fail to secure venues in Kenya and Tanzania.
