Kisumu county Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has called for the arrest of the police officer who allegedly killed the Maseno University student.
The deceased was part of a group of students who joined the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya mass action protests on Monday, March 20.
The governor noted that the Police were required to have used tear gas or rubber bullets instead of live bullets on unarmed protestors during the mass action.

“The police should indicate professionalism and self-discipline while cracking down riots instead of using brutality on unarmed protestors,” Anyang’ Nyong’o said.
William Mayange a third-year student in Education was allegedly shot in his neck and was noticeably dead moments after he was rushed to the nearest health center for further medical attention.

Mayange was part of the students who were demonstrating at the Maseno Centre over the high cost of living including high prices on basic commodities.
