Women are Turning to Sologamy; a Marriage to Themselves

Sologamy

If you ever think marriage with another person is not for you, why not try sologamy, where you choose to get married to yourself?

Many people find it exhausting to get a partner you can settle down and marry and actually make it last. If it is not one fight about staring at the wrong things, it’s a fight about who is cleaning the dishes. These routines make married people scream. Since that marriage is like a death sentence, that is where sologamy comes into play.

This is the newest trend in town after polyamory, where people, especially women choose to wed and commit to themselves instead of another person. If Miley Cyrus’s hit song ‘I can buy myself flowers’ had a face, it would be sologamy, literally.

This union makes sense, in a way since nobody can deal with your baggage better than you. At the same time, sologamy frees you from all the shenanigans a normal marriage brings. Sologamy is more of a commitment to oneself, showing appreciation for the woman you’ve become.

It does not necessarily mean the woman is celibate, but it means she uses such an act to express love for herself. That’s some way to show it though, no?

While sologamy is slowly taking the world by storm, (It is barely adjusting from the polyamory wave), it is not such a new thing. One American woman, Linda Baker was recognized to be the first to have a Sologamous marriage in 1993. She had thought it through, with the whole ensemble of seven bridesmaids and 75 guests. The bridegroom section was where she drew the line since there wasn’t any.

Sologamy is not legally recognized, which kind of makes it an easy (Probably the easiest and cheapest) marriage to have. The ceremony can take place anywhere, at any time, and the best part; you do not need any papers. The icing on the cake is, if you get lucky in the future to find an actual groom, your marriage to yourself remains intact.
