Smelling shoes can make you lose your self-confidence. With the right tips, you can get your shoes to be odour-free in no time.
A variety of factors come into play as far as smelling shoes are concerned. For starters, sweat accumulation in the feet may cause an unpleasant smell in your shoes. This is because some bacteria and fungi function well in such damp environments.
Dealing with ponging shoes can be quite a hassle. Not to worry though, because there is always a solution:

- Washing your shoes regularly
It looks so easy, yet many people fail to do so, hence this consequence. Be sure to wash your shoes as often as possible. Clean your in-soles as well to get rid of any germs, dirt, and sweat that may have accumulated in there over time. Using fabric softeners is an added advantage.
- Wear socks, please
Many have a habit of putting shoes on without socks. This is dangerous since your feet sweat, and in turn, your shoes are more susceptible to smelling. For every shoe that needs to be worn with socks, be sure to do so. It is important to wash your socks after every wear too.

- Avoid wearing wet shoes
Shoes do not need the wash-and-wear technique. Once you have cleaned them thoroughly, ensure they dry out in the sun. This will help with the prevention of the growth of bacteria and fungi. The same goes for all gym members. After a long, sweaty workout, let your shoes dry out before your next wear.
- Use deodorant
It may seem weird but it works wonders. These days, science has enabled the creation of different deodorants for different body parts; the bum and inner thighs to mention but a few. Apply a generous amount of deodorant after a shower to get your feet staying fresh. This is convenient, especially for those who have sweaty feet. You can also substitute the deodorant with good old baby powder.

- Maybe it’s time for the shoes to go…
As Africans, we tend to keep shoes for long periods, even after they need to go. (Maybe we do have attachment issues). Either way, sometimes shoes start to stink because they are too worn out, especially on the outer soles, that they start absorbing water or moisture. Honey, if it comes to that, you better let them go. Your feet will thank you later.
