World Cup winners Argentina are second in the latest FIFA rankings, following in on South American rivals Brazil, despite being crowned World Champions.

Set to be officially released on Thursday, the latest FIFA rankings have placed 2022 Qatar World Cup champions Argentina second, behind Brazil who retain the top spot.

According to ESPN, shootouts are worth much less in terms of ranking points, therefore Argentina’s victory was not enough for them to pass Brazil and take the top spot.

Argentina have risen to second, with finalists France coming in at third. Belgium has dropped two places and now rank fourth ahead of England who finish the top five list.

Africa’s giants Morocco defied the odds finishing fourth at the just concluded 2022 Qatar World Cup. Their impressive performances leading to shock results have ensured that the Atlas Lions were the highest climbers, alongside Australia in the latest FIFA rankings. Morocco climbed 11 positions to 11th worldwide, whereas the Socceroos climbed 11 places to 38th worldwide.

The Netherlands are in sixth ahead of high-climbers Croatia, who are poised to move up from 12th to seventh. Italy, Portugal, and Spain complete the top 10.

Morocco now sit above Germany in 14th, Mexico in 15th, and Uruguay in 16th. What a statement from the Atlas Lions. Cameroon also enjoyed a big rise of 10 places up to 33rd, thanks to their win over Brazil.
