Former Harambee Stars captain, Victor Wanyama is set to make a comeback to international football after retiring in 2021
The ‘Lion of Muthurwa’ as Victor Wanyama is fondly referred to in Kenya, is set to return to the national team, Harambee Stars. The ex-Tottenham midfielder was axed by then Head Coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee during a restructuring process. Michael Olunga was then given the captain’s armband.
In September 2021, Wanyama was not picked for the squad to face Uganda and Rwanda in the World Cup qualifiers, leading to the announcement of his retirement from international football.

Wanyama’s return to the national team, Harambee Stars, has been announced on Thursday by Sports, Youth Affairs, and Arts CS Ababu Namwamba, on Twitter. The former Harambee stars captain met the CS before making the announcement.
CS Namwamba said, “I am delighted Victor Wanyama has agreed to return fully to Harambee Stars, rescinding his earlier decision to exit the team. In our mission to rebuild our football and elevate our national teams, our elite players must be at the heart of this renaissance. Ogada Olunga too is in.”
31-year-old Victor Wanyama announced retirement from the national team after 14 years, playing 64 times and scoring seven goals.
