COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has urged for unity and the end of political campaigns and bickering while congratulating President William Ruto for becoming the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

During his September 13 inaugural speech, President Ruto restored the hopes of all workers by expressing the desire to make amends and bring them together through the COTU association.

“In his inaugural speech President Ruto was full of reconciliation and hope and as COTU (K) we associate ourselves with his resolution and assuarance of working with all Kenyans from political divide in building a united and prosperus Kenya,” reads part of the press statement.

Atwoli, who had lately sparked political controversy by assuring Kenyans that William Ruto would never be president of Kenya, became a man of false prophecies after Ruto realized his long-held objective.

In a past speech during a political rally, Atwoli said he prophesied in 2014 that William Ruto will never becoming president of Kenya.

“I can’t say anything that will never come to pass and William Samoei Ruto will never be the president. You can take it to the bank,” he said during a political rally.

After the Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s presidency, Francis Atwoli, however, refuted accusations made by him that Ruto would never be president.

“As I have said always, William Samoei Ruto is an articulate politician. But I had envisioned that he can’t become the fifth President of Kenya , I did not say he can’t be a president,” he said.

“He is a president and I am urging all Kenyans of good will to rally behind him, give him an opportunity to form his government, support him. Lets give him time to see if he can re-organize our economy,” Atwoli added.

The trade unionist urged Kenyans to accept the status quo.

“A winner must be accepted, we must accept that our fifth president, as it has gone through all stages… is William Samoei Ruto. That is what Kenyans wanted, that is what it is,” he said.

Meanwhile, the COTU leader demanded a strong response to Ruto’s plans for economic growth as he fought tenaciously for workers’ rights and those for Kenyans who are vulnerable.
