Former President of the United States Barack Obama won the best narrator Emmy Award on Saturday, September 3, for his Netflix documentary series, “Our Great National Parks.”
The Netflix series which features the natural beauty of five different continents, including Indonesia and Chile’s Patagonia, makes him the only second US president in history to win an Emmy.
The five-part series on international national parks was created by Higher Ground, a production company owned by the Obamas.
Obama is now halfway to becoming an Egot—someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony—thanks to the Emmy and his two Grammy awards.

He received Grammy Awards for audio versions of his memoirs “Dreams from My Father” in 2006, and “The Audacity of Hope” in 2008.
According to BBC News, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lupita Nyong’o, and David Attenborough were also contenders in the category for the best narrator.
Obama and his wife Michelle founded Higher Ground after he left office in 2017, striking a deal with Netflix that is said to be worth tens of millions of dollars.
To date, only 17 people—among them Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Jenifer Hudson—have attained Egot status.
