INJECT Party leader Morara Kebaso has confirmed that he is joining the Jubilee Party, signalling a significant shift in his political strategy as opposition leaders continue to position themselves for Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on a local television station, Kebaso said he had decided to put his own political party aside in favour of working through Jubilee, the party associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

“The INJECT Party will remain on the shelf. At the moment, we are working with the party of Chairman Fred Matiang’i, which is the Jubilee Party,” Kebaso said.

When asked directly whether he had officially joined Jubilee, he responded without hesitation: “Yes, yes, yes. We have to go with the realities of the politics of the day.”

The move marks a notable change for Kebaso, who launched the INJECT Party as part of his push to offer what he described as a fresh political alternative. He now argues that established political parties remain more familiar to voters in his home region.

Referring to Nyamira County and the wider Gusii region, Kebaso said Jubilee still enjoys strong recognition among residents.

“In Borabu, Nyamira County and the larger Gusii region, people are accustomed to Jubilee. If you introduce another party, they may not even listen to what you have to say,” he said.

He argued that political branding should not become an obstacle to communicating policy ideas or winning public support.

“You don’t want to make people emotional because they won’t even listen to the good message that you have or give you an opportunity to serve them,” he added.

Kebaso also dismissed criticism from those questioning his decision to work with leaders he had previously opposed. He said politics often requires rivals to set aside their differences in pursuit of broader national goals.

“Leaders fight and then they agree. The politics of the day is that people have to work together to achieve a national goal. We don’t keep grudges,” he said.

He encouraged political leaders to focus on their long-term vision rather than past disputes.

“If you keep remembering these things, you’ll end up carrying a bag of grudges. I have also been wronged by many people, but you move on quickly so that you’re able to serve people,” he said.

Kebaso also reflected on the changing nature of public opinion, saying leaders should not allow shifting political sentiment to dictate their decisions.

“The people who support you today may criticise you tomorrow, and those criticising you today may support you tomorrow. You cannot base your leadership on what people are saying. Identify your vision, work with like-minded people and keep pushing towards it,” he said.

He maintained that Kenya’s evolving political landscape has created room for former rivals to work together.

“It’s true there were issues we did not understand back then, but the time has now called for us to work together,” Kebaso said.

His announcement comes as political parties and emerging alliances continue to reorganise ahead of the 2027 elections, with leaders seeking broader coalitions in an increasingly competitive political environment.
