Professor George Wajackoyah has declared that he is ready to make another run for Kenya’s presidency in 2027, returning to the political stage nearly five years after his unconventional campaign captured national attention.

The Roots Party leader made the announcement ahead of his party’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, where officials are expected to unveil new members and outline the party’s plans for the next General Election.

Wajackoyah, who finished third in the 2022 presidential race, said he remained committed to offering Kenyans what he described as an alternative political path at a time when the country is facing economic pressure and growing political tension.

“We are ready,” he said in recent remarks carried by local media, insisting that his party would not be swallowed by larger political coalitions as early alignments for 2027 begin to take shape.

His declaration comes as political activity across the country quietly gathers pace, with both allies and critics of President William Ruto positioning themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

Wajackoyah became one of the most talked-about figures during the 2022 campaign because of his unconventional proposals, including legalising marijuana farming for export and introducing snake farming for venom extraction. While many Kenyans dismissed some of the ideas as unrealistic, others viewed him as a rare outsider willing to challenge traditional politics.

In recent months, he has sharpened his criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration, arguing that many ordinary citizens are struggling with the rising cost of living and economic uncertainty.

Still, analysts say the road to State House remains steep for smaller parties operating outside Kenya’s dominant political alliances. The country’s elections have historically been shaped by powerful coalitions built around established political figures and ethnic voting blocs.

Even so, Wajackoyah appears determined to stay in the conversation.

His supporters argue that his message still resonates with younger voters frustrated by mainstream politics. Critics, however, say turning public attention into a serious national campaign will require stronger grassroots structures and broader political backing.

Kenya’s next General Election is expected in August 2027, though the political contest appears to have already begun.
