Police seize 810 rolls of Bhang in Kasarani and arrests three

NAIROBI — Police in Nairobi have arrested three suspects after a significant drug bust in the city’s Kasarani area uncovered a large haul of cannabis and edible drugs.

Officers say the raid, conducted on Monday, was driven by intelligence from local informants. Inside a private residence, they found 810 rolls of bhang, 50 kilograms of loose cannabis, and 30 hash-infused cookies. The drugs, authorities believe, were destined for street sale in several Nairobi estates.

The suspects are currently being held at a local police station and are expected to be charged in court later this week. Their identities have not yet been released.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Police Service (NPS) said the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle narcotics distribution rings operating in the capital.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantle drug networks through sustained, intelligence-led operations and collaboration with the public,” the statement read.

While cannabis remains illegal in Kenya, reports of its widespread use—particularly among the youth—have increased pressure on law enforcement agencies to clamp down on suppliers.

Kasarani, a densely populated suburb in Nairobi, has in recent years emerged as a hotspot for drug-related arrests. Authorities attribute this to its mix of informal settlements, thriving nightlife, and high youth population.

Although no weapons were recovered in the Monday operation, police sources said the suspects were not cooperative during the arrest, prompting concerns that they may be linked to a larger network.

The seizure is among the largest reported in Nairobi this year. Anti-narcotics officers are now working to trace the source of the drugs and identify other suspects potentially involved in the distribution chain.

The NPS has urged members of the public to report suspicious activity anonymously and assured continued vigilance in the fight against drug trafficking.
