Juja MP George Koimburi has been found alive—but badly shaken—after an alleged abduction that left his family and supporters reeling.

He was discovered early Monday morning in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County, barely 24 hours after being taken by unknown men during a church service.

The MP was rushed to a hospital near Ruiru town. Family members say he is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during what they describe as a violent seizure.

“He was in pain. You could see it in the way he moved, the way he spoke,” a close family member told The Times. “We’re grateful he’s alive, but we fear for his safety.”

Koimburi was allegedly seized on Sunday afternoon at a church in Juja, right in front of stunned congregants. Witnesses say men in plain clothes forced him into a Subaru vehicle and drove off at high speed. His wife was reportedly injured while trying to intervene.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, a political ally, claimed the MP had been followed for days.

“They’ve been trailing him since he started issuing bursaries last week,” Senator Thang’wa said in a phone interview. “He escaped once on a motorbike. This time, they got him.”

The circumstances around his abduction remain murky.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which has been linked to politically sensitive arrests in the past, has denied any involvement.

In a statement cited by Citizen TV, the DCI confirmed Koimburi had been under investigation since Friday. He is wanted over claims of land fraud and misuse of public funds, specifically Constituency Development Funds (CDF). However, the agency insisted it had not detained him.

Still, the timing and nature of his disappearance have raised eyebrows, especially among opposition leaders and human rights groups.

“This is no way to arrest a sitting Member of Parliament,” said one local official, who asked not to be named. “If he has questions to answer, let due process be followed. What we saw was a man being taken like a criminal.”

No official charges have been brought against Koimburi so far. And despite the DCI’s statements, many are questioning why no arrest warrant or public notice had been issued beforehand.

Political tensions in Kiambu are running high. Koimburi, a vocal MP known for challenging party leadership, has often clashed with rivals over land issues and government spending in the region.

As of Monday morning, there had been no official statement from the MP himself, though his team confirmed he was recovering under medical supervision.

The story continues to develop, with many now calling for a transparent investigation into both the alleged abduction and the accusations facing the legislator.

For now, his supporters are just relieved he’s alive.

“Whatever this is about, we want answers,” said one Juja resident outside the hospital. “No one should go through this. Not even our leaders.”
