It is said that “All is well that ends well.” Cassie made a statement on Thursday revealing her reason behind filing the lawsuit against her ex-lover.

“After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships”.

The lawsuit against Diddy Combs

Cassie’s lawsuit stated that Combs assaulted the singer multiple times, threatened her, and controlled every aspect of her life. Cassandra Ventura and Sean John Combs dated for more than a decade. Their relationship officially ended in 2018, after what Cassie terms was a cycle of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking.

Cassie’s representative told reporters that Diddy Combs offered Ventura “8 figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit.” However, Diddy’s representative strongly denied the claims, saying that the allegations were offensive and outrageous. Ben Braftmant added that Cassie was after money as she had demanded Ksh 4.5 billion ($ 30 million) from Combs.

“Ms Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr Combs’ reputation and seeking a pay day.”

The lawsuit paints quite a shocking picture of the business mogul, Combs, and the nature of his dead relationship with Cassie. Diddy Combs, who also goes by the names Love, P Diddy, and Puff Daddy is a big hip-hop and business figure. The rapper founded Bad Boys Records in 1993 and has since signed many artists including Lil Kim, Notorious BIG, and Mary J Blige.

In 2017, Diddy was ranked as the world’s highest-paid musician by Forbes, earning an estimated Ksh 20 billion ($ 130 million) a year. However, several other artists came forward and showed support for Cassie. Aubrey O’Day told reporters, “I am in full support of Cassie. It isn’t easy to take on one of the most powerful people in this industry and be honest about your experience with them.”

Diddy’s and Cassie’s relationship

Talented R&B singer, Cassie, met Diddy in 2005 at the age of 19. The then 37-year-old Combs swiftly signed Cassie and aggressively began pursuing her. Shortly after signing a 10-album deal with Bad Boys Records, Cassie quickly rose to fame and became a star. However, the lawsuit records that during her 21st birthday, Diddy appeared without invitation and forcibly kissed Ventura.

The young Cassie felt disadvantaged, as denying her boss’ strong advancements would have jeopardized her career. According to the lawsuit, Diddy immediately asserted his power and influence over her. He gradually lured her into an “ostentatious, fast-paced and drug-fueled lifestyle.” Combs paid for Ventura’s lavish vacations, apartments, designer clothing, and drugs. This lifestyle, as per Cassie was meant to keep her “complacent and compliant” as Combs is controlling and abusive.

Ventura alleged that Diddy constantly “punched, kicked and stomped” her and on two occasions forced her to hold his guns in her purse. The lawsuit further terms Diddy as a person with uncontrollable rage. It additionally stated that he forced Ventura into “engaging in sex acts with male sex workers,” which were photographed and filmed. During these terrible encounters, Diddy allegedly kept Cassie on drugs, which helped her dissociate.

Cassandra’s lawsuit disclosed that as a victim of sex trafficking, Diddy required her to engage in forced sexual acts in multiple cities. He also routinely made her hide in hotel rooms while her bruises healed. In 2015, the lawsuit recalls a time when Diddy’s security guard and assistant cried after Cassie was severely beaten. It also reveals that Comb’s close circle of friends knew of his actions and were unwilling to stop him.

New beginnings

Cassandra’s separation from Combs has not been an easy journey. Diddy owns the music label under which she was signed, thus holding and controlling her future. According to Ventura, Diddy controlled her and used threats and his network to block her from leaving him. In 2012, after Cassie got into a relationship with Kid Cudi, Diddy allegedly blew up Kudi’s car.

Kid Cudi confirmed this to reporters through a representative saying, “This is all true.” Moreover, Ventura added that in 2016, the record label refused to release her single. James Cruz, the record’s president told Miss Ventura her song would not be released unless she answered calls. Ventura’s final blow came in 2018, at a time when she was desperate to end the relationship for good.

According to the lawsuit, after a failed dinner attempt to discuss the end of the relationship, Diddy forced himself into the house and raped Ventura. Shortly after, the singer left the house and car, which Diddy provided, thus separating herself from him completely.

Cassandra Ventura added that she has since required “intensive medical and psychological care,” due to the trauma she experienced.

“Ms. Ventura therefore seeks justice for the decade of her life that Mr Combs took away from her with threats of violence, excessive use of drugs, physical and psychological abuse, and sexual slavery.”

Lawsuit

Nonetheless, Ventura has been applauded for her bravery in speaking up on the abuse and violence she went through. In a statement, her representative said, “I am very proud of Ms Ventura for having the strength to go public with her lawsuit. She ought to be commended for doing so.”
