Family, friends, and senior Michigan authorities honoured a Detroit synagogue president who was tragically murdered at her home on Sunday as a kind, considerate leader who bridged cultures.
Mourners came to pay tribute to Samantha Woll, or “Sam” as she was known to friends and family, while police persisted in their search for a motive. The 40-year-old chairman of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue had political ties as a former aide to Democratic Representative Elissa Slotkin and campaign staffer for Attorney General Dana Nessel. Family and friends who attended Woll’s burial on Sunday described her as a kind woman with a brilliant smile who constantly wanted to help those around her.

According to multiple reports, Detroit police discovered Woll’s body at around 6:30 a.m. local time on Saturday after responding to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive person outside her home in the city’s Lafayette Park area. Woll grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from the University of Michigan. In 2022, she was elected to lead the board of directors at Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue.
Friends and family claimed Woll was a person of many different religions, and mourners noticed that the gathering represented this. She received praise for her interfaith efforts from Muslim advocacy organizations, among others. She sought out connections to other causes, such as Black Lives Matter, according to family members.

Although the motive of the stabbing is yet to be established, investigators have urged the public to refrain from making assumptions as the probe into Woll’s murder continues. earlier it had been insinuated that she was killed as a hate crime but police have dispelled those rumours.
