Israel Hit by Gaza Infiltration and Major Hamas Rocket Attack

As Israel observes the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, it finds itself once again facing conflict, this time with Hamas. The surprise rocket and infiltration attacks launched by Hamas on the holy day of Yom Kippur have stirred memories of that fateful war in 1973.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant wasted no time in addressing the situation, declaring, “Hamas has made a grave mistake this morning and launched a war against the State of Israel. IDF troops are fighting against the enemy at every location. I call on all of Israel’s citizens to follow security instructions. The State of Israel will win this war.”

The IDF quickly initiated Operation “Swords of Iron” to counter the attacks from Hamas. Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif had earlier announced the launch of “Al-Aqsa Storm,” targeting “enemy positions, airports, and military positions.”

The attacks have left a trail of injuries across Israel. According to reports, at least 100 people have been injured, with Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva treating 80 individuals, including gunshot and shrapnel wounds. Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot is also providing care for 21 people, two of whom are in serious condition.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog, acknowledging the challenging moment, offered words of encouragement, saying, “The State of Israel is facing a very difficult moment. I wish to offer strength to the commanders and soldiers of the IDF and to all the security forces and rescue services. I send my encouragement and strength to all the residents of Israel who are under attack.”

He went on to call on everyone to follow instructions from the Home Front Command and demonstrate mutual responsibility and resolve.

“We can overcome all those who wish us harm,” Herzog added.

The timing of these attacks, coinciding with the Yom Kippur anniversary, has added a layer of significance to the current crisis.
