Hamas Discourages Gaza Refugees from Evacuating the War Zone

Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, issued a directive on Friday urging Palestinians residing in Gaza not to leave their homes. The statement labeled Israel’s actions as “psychological warfare” and accused them of spreading misleading information to create confusion among civilians.

“The occupation is attempting to spread and circulate false propaganda through various means, aiming to create confusion among citizens and undermine the stability of our internal front.”

Israel, which is still hell-bound on burning Gaza to the ground, has amassed over 300,000 reservists along Gaza’s southern border. However, the Israeli military has not confirmed whether an intensified military operation is imminent.

On the other hand, the Israeli military issued a call on Friday, for all civilians in Gaza City to evacuate southwards. Earlier, Israel had ordered around 1.1 million people to evacuate northern Gaza. A directive the United Nations (UN) termed “impossible” without causing severe humanitarian consequences.

In response to the escalating situation, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) relocated its central operations. UNRWA’s center and international staff evacuated from Gaza to the south of the enclave. Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has sought assistance from Egypt.

“I’m really worried. My heart goes to all those who have lost their lives and their families both from Israel and Palestine. This is a very sad moment.”

Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has agreed to facilitate the transfer of medical supplies. The supplies will be moved through the Rafah Crossing, the only corridor for Palestinians and aid to pass in and out of Gaza.

However, accessing this lifeline is becoming increasingly difficult due to the Israeli siege. The Rafah Crossing has sustained damage from repeated Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian side of the border. This consequently complicates efforts to bring aid and humanitarian support to Gaza.

Regardless, the international community remains deeply concerned about the well-being of civilians caught in the crossfire. Both Israel and Hamas are urged to prioritize civilian safety and take steps towards de-escalation.
