UoN finds itself in a state of confusion as the unexpected return of Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Kiama continues to perplex the institution’s stakeholders. With no clear directive from the university’s council, a section of teaching staff is demanding clarity on the institution’s leadership.

“The silence by the council on the matter has left the entire teaching fraternity at a loss. We do not know whether to follow instructions from Prof Kiama or Prof Julius Ogeng’o, who was appointed to act as VC,” said Omondi.

The council chairperson, Amukowa Anangwe, has yet to publicly address the issue, adding to the growing concerns among staff and students.

A special council meeting scheduled for Saturday morning to discuss the leadership dilemma was abruptly canceled, further intensifying the confusion within the university.

In his statement, Mr. Omondi emphasized the importance of the council’s role in providing clarity and direction.

“It is the council that can provide leadership to the substantive vice-chancellor and to all other staff members in this institution. We expect that the council comes out strongly and states what position exists in respect to the current goings-on in the university,” he urged.

The lecturers also highlighted the need for immediate clarification, particularly with the 69th graduation ceremony scheduled for September 22.

The lack of clarity has raised concerns about the event’s organization and whether it will proceed smoothly.

Furthermore, there have been allegations of harassment against teaching staff who have chosen to follow the instructions of different office-bearers, exacerbating the situation. The staff members are now calling for swift action to restore order within the institution.

In an attempt to seek resolution, the teaching staff has also called upon President William Ruto to intervene if the standoff persists. Their hope is that his involvement will help bring about a resolution and end the confusion that has plagued the university in recent weeks.
