Kenya is a land of many mysteries and one that recently struck us was the sudden arrest of one Teresia Wanjiru alias Mathe wa Ngara. According to numerous reports and rumors, one thing is clear, there exists a Mathe wa Ngara who is an alleged drug lord.
On August 15, one Teresia Wanjiru was arrested by the DCI in possession of;
- 26 bags of cannabis
- four cartons of rolling materials
- 173 packaged sweets
- carton of suspected weed cookies
The exciting part though, is that Teresia Wanjiru was found to possess a staggering Ksh.13.4 Million in cash and arrested alongside three juveniles aged between 16 and 17.

Following the arrest, everyone appeared to speak in one accord on X, that the arrested woman was not the real Mathe wa Ngara. Surprisingly, Kenyan X-men did not seem to recognize Teresia Wanjiru and some even had pics and video snippets of the real Mathe wa Ngara.
Nonetheless, one question that never left Kenyan’s mouth was regarding the ksh. 13 million. It is a tad shocking to Kenyans that a woman in possession of tens of millions would be arrested in an iron sheet house in the company of mere juveniles.
Kwa Mathe is the popular name given to the real Mathe wa Ngara’s base of operation. Directions to the place are surprisingly even available on google maps and some loving Kenyans who have toured the place even felt inclined to leave reviews.
A few years back, K24 toured Kwa Mathe and did an expose on the place and its operations. In addition, several tweets on X indicate that the place has been operational for over five years now.
As it is, Kenyans have very little faith in the Kenya Police, the DCI, and the Kenyan justice system. On Monday, August 22, a famed businesswoman named Nancy Kigunzu was arrested as the real Mathe wa Ngara.
These recent events beg several questions, just how many Mathe wa Ngara are there? Who on earth is Teresia Wanjiru? Why was she “framed?” Would Nancy Kizungu currently be under arrest had there not been an uproar on X about the identity of the real Mathe wa Ngara?
