Afrobeats sensation, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, commonly referred to as Oxlade shared that he slept under the Ojuelegba barrack bridge. The 26-year-old artist, shared how he struggled when he was still upcoming.
The Kulosa hitmaker shared his struggle in the latest episode of the Afrobeats podcast with Adesope live. Oxlade shared that his family and his father mostly did not support his decision to join music and preferred that he did a 9 – 5.
My dad, not just my dad but everyone in my family said I had to get a 9-5 because you no fit use this music. Because of that, I ran away from the house.

Oxlade decided to run away from home to pursue his music career. He ended up sleeping under the Ojuelegba barrack bridge and sometimes would sleep in his friend’s house for a few days just so he can have a roof over his head.
“Back then, I used to sleep at Ojuelegba barrack bridge sometimes and sometimes I would spend 3 days in my friend’s house and if the see finish is too much, I would go to the bridge. There’s a firefighting station right next to the bridge where I used to enter the bridge,”

He shared how he had to do menial jobs like selling bus tickets and serving food to customers in order to get some money. Oxlade added that that time in his life is what taught him the real meaning of what hustle is.
He shared that he did not join the music industry to create hits that would only last a minute but instead create classics that would be remembered. Oxlade pointed out that classic music took time to create and he did not want to rush it.
“I am not looking for hits; I am looking for classics. I mean, ‘Away’ is four or three years old, but it’s still banging. ‘Ku Lo Sa’ is a year old, it still bangs. ‘O2’ from nowhere, it just blew up last year. These songs are old, but they still have value right now,”
Oxlade blew up with his hit song Kulosa having over 73 million views on YouTube and the hashtag kulosachallenge having over 920 million views on Tiktok.
