Gor Mahia Beats Homeboyz in Penalty Shootout to Lift FKF Charity Shield

Gor Mahia FC started their 2023/24 season by winning the FKF Charity Shield after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 4-2 on penalties at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday.

The Charity Cup sees the new FKF Premier League champions against the domestic cup winners have ended 1-1 in regular play.

The first half saw barren goals, with both teams tactically assessing their opponents.

However, Gor’s Bonface Omondi made it at the back of the net in the 62nd minute, securing a lead.

Astonishingly, Homeboyz’s Eric Ambunya levelled the score just eight minutes later.

It was a 1-1 tie until the final whistle, leading to the penalty shootout.

Penalty shootout to lift FKF Charity Shield

Gor’s Lyson Muyonga delivered the decisive penalty that secured his side’s first silverware of the season.

The new league season is set to commence on August 26 with eight action-packed matches lined up for the opening day.

Among these fixtures, we have the exciting matchup between newcomers Shabana and Muranga Seal, both determined to make their mark in the league.

Gor Mahia edged out Kakamega Homeboyz 4-2 in post-match penalties to kick off their campaign with a cup victory ahead of the much-anticipated 2024 FKF Premier League season.

Speaking after their win, Gor head coach Jonathan McKinstry said he was happy to begin the campaign with a win.

“A perfect way to start the new season. Winning becomes a habit. Lifting the Shield Cup is another step in developing this young group of players.

We now focus on the kick of the FKF Premier League in two weeks’ time,” said McKinstry.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia have picked up the pace from where they left it two months ago after winning the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Charity Shield Cup on Saturday.

Gor Mahia Football Club known as K’Ogalo, is a football club based in Nairobi, Kenya. They have won the Kenyan Premier League a record 20 times.

They have also won the FKF President’s Cup a record 11 times. It is the first and only team from Kenya to win an African continental title to date, having won the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987 after previously reaching the final in 1979.
