President Ruto Advocates for an Independent and Prosperous Africa Driven by its People

President Ruto emphasized the importance of the Africa Climate Summit, the first-ever on the continent under the AU, scheduled to take place in Nairobi from September 4th to 6th.

Following the Paris Summit, the Africa Climate Summit provides a critical opportunity to accelerate global energy transition and present African solutions at COP 28 in Dubai. President Ruto urged active participation and advocacy for global alignment on a green growth agenda and a transformative global climate finance compact.

He celebrated the unity of African people and their dedication to sustainable solutions for global issues. President Ruto praised President Abdel of Egypt for leading the Heads of State and Governments Orientation Committee, working towards consolidating regional and continental integration in line with Agenda 2063.

The President also highlighted the need for structural and organizational improvements within the African Union, aiming for an organization that is fit for purpose, with a strong voice on the global stage. He stressed the importance of taking into account Africa’s political and economic situations when building African integration, particularly regarding trade, migration, development financing, and conflict resolution.

Peace and security in Africa were major concerns for President Ruto, who praised efforts to convene a national reconciliation conference in Libya and address humanitarian issues in Sudan. Development financing for Africa was also a top priority, and President Ruto appreciated initiatives by the African Development Bank to boost regional integration.

The summit’s attendees discussed the reform of international financing institutions, with the aim of ensuring fair representation and support for Africa’s development ambitions. President Ruto encouraged the progress made with the G20’s opening to the African Union, emphasizing the importance of including the continent in political and international affairs.
