Authorities in Colombia have reported that a small plane carrying five politicians and a pilot crashed, resulting in the loss of all on board.
The crash happened early morning on July 20, leaving families grieving and shocking the nation of Colombia. The ill-fated flight departed from Villavicencio and was headed for Bogota. However, disaster came soon after takeoff, and the plane fell from the skies and crashed into the Colombian countryside. Authorities and rescue teams were sent to the crash scene right once, but it soon became clear that there were no survivors.

According to reports by Colombia’s civil aviation authority, some of the victims of the crash were identified as ex-senator Nohora Tovar, departmental lawmaker Dimas Barrero, aspirant governor Eliodoro Alvarez and Villavicencio municipal councillor Oscar Rodriguez. According to local media, the small plane was flying to a party gathering before it crashed.
The five politicians involved were all a part of Alvaro Uribe’s right-wing Centro Democratico. President Gustavo Petro, a leftist, expressed his condolences on his Twitter account after news of the crash broke.

The president added that he was following the investigation into the cause of the plane crash as the country’s civil aviation authority reported that they have launched a probe into the matter.
