Kenya is getting ready to launch a record number of low-cost smartphones into the market, introducing in a new era of digital inclusion for its people.
The Information, Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo declared that the government is now prepared to start this transformative journey after completing feasibility studies.
Kenya is dedicated to closing the digital gap and wants to ensure that everyone can access smartphones, regardless of their financial situation.
Mr. Owalo expressed his excitement for this game-changing move by saying, “We are very soon rolling out in the market our first batch of locally assembled smartphones.’’
The smartphones will cost about Ksh5,516 to ensure general affordability. This change will revolutionize how easily Kenyans of all socioeconomic backgrounds may access these crucial resources since government services are becoming more and more digitally focused.
The Kenyan government has taken a strong action by entering the local smartphone manufacturing market after realizing the obstacle presented by excessive smartphone pricing.
By producing these products domestically, the country will efficiently remove the obstacles that hinder many people from embracing the digital world.

Kenya’s efforts are supported by an effective digital infrastructure that is already in place nationally. It is therefore crucial to provide affordable smartphones to fully realize this infrastructure’s potential.
These affordable smartphones will be assembled at the renowned Konza Technopolis in Machakos County, strengthening the local manufacturing sector.
The government is actively collaborating with manufacturers and partners in the private sector to guarantee a smooth rollout of these game-changing devices as a sign of unity and teamwork.
