Laura Ligos, a registered dietitian nutritionist, emphasizes the importance of balance in girl dinners. Including protein, colorful fruits/veggies, and enjoyable items like crackers is key. Dr. Mike Sevilla sees the trend as an opportunity to educate about healthier eating. On the other hand, Dr. LaTasha Perkins hopes it won’t promote unhealthy eating habits or disordered eating.

Creating Healthy Girl dinners

Ligos advises making girl dinners nutrient-dense. Snack plates should include at least one protein source, colorful fruits/veggies for fiber, and fun additions like olives or pickles. Adequate portion size ensures satisfaction.

Dr. Sevilla suggests treating meals as plates with different food groups. vegetables and fruits (50%), healthy proteins (25%), and non-processed carbohydrates (25%).

Perkins recommends charcuterie board-like meals, offering a variety of elements to meet nutritional needs. Making healthier swaps or additions, like adding eggs and vegetables to instant noodles, enhances the meal’s nutrition.

Beware of Disordered Eating

While there are healthy ways to enjoy the trend, disordered eating can emerge on social media platforms like TikTok. Ligos cautions against treating girl dinners as snacks instead of balanced meals.
